The band was tight as ever. The Warren Haynes Band cuts loose: Video, Photos

https://JazzBlues.EU July 21, 2024

Keeping with good ol’ Warren Haynes fashion, he cut loose with maybe the best short set list you could ask for. The Warren Haynes Band is one of the opening acts supporting Slash on his S.E.R.P.E.N.T. tour to honor the blues.

Warren rocked the Tucson, Arizona folks with a six-song killer set list that had them wanting more. I could not handle just six songs; I would have liked to see at least five more, but I understand this is not Warren’s show.

He has an incredible line-up of musicians with this one, Matt Slocum (keys), Gov’t Mule bassist Kevin Scott (bass), previous WHB member Terence Higgins (drums), and Greg Osby on the sax. Keeping with good ol’ Warren Haynes fashion, he cut loose with maybe the best short set list you could ask for. “Man in Motion” started things as a perfect way to draw in the crowd and to set the jam off right.

“Banks of The Deep End” and “Power and The Glory” followed and rocked the house. I have covered Warren, The Allman Brothers, and Gov’t Mule for years now and I must admit I was caught up watching and listening to Kevin Scott. This is the first time I have seen him live that I can remember, I think I saw him years ago at a music festival in Florida.

I can’t wait to see my next Mule show with him as their newest bassist. I think this is a great fit for them, because the band was tight as ever.

Next up was “Hattiesburg Shuffle” – another Warren tune that kept things rolling. It was also about this time when I started hearing the first shout out to Warren to perform “Soulshine,” a fan favorite amongst the Mule fans. And Warren listened, ending with the classic that brought everyone to their feet.
