Trio power at its finest. A true joy to watch and listen to the three musicians perform at Jazz Cellar Esslingen in our Jazz festival EU.
After Claudia Leutner’s introduction, the three musicians came on stage and began. They played just one piece… then a break.
After three-quarters of an hour! It was incredible. A variety of musical styles were heard, rhythm changes were met with laughter from bassist Mark Helias and drummer Joey Baron.
The audience in the sold-out jazz cellar cheered. A true joy to watch and listen to the three musicians perform.
Pianist, keyboardist, and composer Uri Caine specializes in combining jazz, funk, klezmer, film music, and classical music. As Uri Caine announced in an interview: “We will play a combination of new originals, standards, and free improvisations.”
This formation truly represents a meeting of masters with musical soul mates. The pianist recounted: “I met Joey and Mark when I first moved to New York and played with them in the rhythm sections of various groups. From the moment we played together, we felt an instant connection. I’m looking forward to playing as a trio with Mark and Joey, because having them on stage is always amazing!”
The celebratory program for “30 Years of Jazz Blues EU” features exceptional concerts. This was one of them. They knew exactly who they were inviting, because the invitation read: “A dream come true: Uri Caine will play the grand piano in the Jazzkeller!”
After a wonderful second set and an encore, an enthusiastic audience walked off into the cold night…
