‘Northern Journey’ is the newest release of Award-winning saxophonist and composer Manuel Dunkel and his quartet including pianist Alexi Tuomarila, bassist Antti Lötjönen and drummer Jaska Lukkarinen.
The virtuoso ensemble is especially known for its melodic expression and distinctive sound, which can furthemore be enjoyed in this brilliant album.
Dunkel has gained a reputation as one of Finland’s strongest jazz musicians since the 1990s. Dunkel’s own production already includes six albums, in addition to which he has been involved in numerous other projects. n Finland and abroad. In addition to his own quartet, Dunkel has played in the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra, the Jukka Perko & Hurmio Orchestra and the Platypus Ensemble. He has played also with Paul Jackson, Rick Margitza, Eric Truffaz and Kenny Wheeler, among others.
