New CD – 2025: Review – Rex Richardson – Elegy: Video, CD cover

https://JazzBlues.EU April 17, 2025

Unknown with a trumpet… How many of them in the history of jazz – with trumpets and clarinets, double basses and trombones, guitars and so on! Unfortunately, musical archaeologists can do far from everything.

Trumpeter Rex Richardson actively worked on the New York jazz scene. Who is he, where is he from, how did he get to New York, continued to play, leaving material traces in the form of recordings, his new album – Elegy.

There are only facts, an inquisitive fan of the jazz tradition can get acquainted with almost all of the surviving creative of Rex Richardson.

And this acquaintance will certainly be pleasant. The fact is that Rex Richardson can really do a lot. The level of technical skill, dynamism, juicy attack are so effective that they make you remember the most famous names of his contemporaries.

The contrast between the solo musician is especially striking. Rex Richardson plays with a strong, clear sound, when he uses vibrato, the sound actually vibrates, and does not quiver incomprehensibly.

Rex Richardson continues to record in the lineups, then follow several instrumental pieces. Another detail seems mysterious:

My latest news is that I released a trumpet study book on qPress only about three weeks after my latest album. It is called Rexterity: Dexterity Studies for Trumpet (a humorous title; I did not choose the name “Rexterity!”).

As for my album Elegy: It features five of my compositions, two by tenor saxophonist Charles Owens, and one by pianist Dimitrijej Vasiljević. In addition to those wonderful musicians, the album features legendary saxophonist Steve Wilson, tenor saxophonist J.C. Kuhl, pianist Daniel Clarke (who is K.D. Lang’s pianist), bassists Andrew Randazzo (of Butcher Brown) and Randall Pharr, and drummers Brian Caputo and Kofi Shepsu. All of these musicians are fantastic, and all are affiliated with my recent hometown, Richmond Virginia, an interview with as said Rex Richardson,- The title was chosen because almost all of the compositions were written in tribute to someone, lost friends or family members, and in some cases, persons who are still with us.

Dear reader, we guarantee that you will purchase this CD right here and enjoy it!!!
